Design and Manufacture at Kenya Boats

Ethos

Kenya Boats is renowned for its ability to look at projects from every perspective, think outside the box, as it were! We are specialist in taking on new and innovative projects. Looking at them from new and interesting perspectives and providing the client with a broad spectrum of ideas and design alternatives. Using our vast knowledge of Kenya and its surroundings combined with a healthy understanding of new developments around the world we are then able to use our skills, local knowledge and international research to ensure all projects we are involved in come to a successful and professional conclusion.

At Kenya Boats we view each project as a personal challenge that must be looked at from the customer’s point of view, allowing the customer to develop the idea and move together with us through the initial discussion stages, along to the design stage and finally the manufacture of the product, idea or concept.

Since our inception we have worked on many concepts with our customers from designing and building a luxury Wooden Dhow for personal usage to building a modern deep drop, electric regenerative energy reel for catching fish in depths of over 300 meters, unheard of in Kenya before, to converting a Toyota Land cruiser into a touring luxury vehicle with a Range Rover body these are just a few of the projects we have successfully managed over the recent years.

Marine Based Projects

We are ready to accept any marine based challenge in our workshops in Mtwapa and look on these projects as a fantastic way to expand our knowledge and develop the coast of Kenya and the communities around us.
We have experience working with many NGO’s such as Danida, The World Bank, World Food Program, we also worked with KEMRI under the SWIOFP program for fishing development on the East African Coast Line.

We are fully equipped with depth sounder sonar, side scan sonar, GPS and radar to be able to undertake marine surveys along the coast to Kenya giving our customers the benefit of full and accurate information during the initial stages of any project.

Training and Development

We also work on design and development projects such as creating a training school to teach young ladies with lower educational backgrounds to work with fibreglass this is an ongoing project. We work with agencies developing grinding and thrashing mills to enable local farmers to use their local surroundings to create and produce oil.  We work with local BMU’s (Beach Management Units) to help the artisanal fishermen to develop their fishing techniques to enable them to create a more sustainable livelihood.

Industry Design and Property Development

On top of this we work with industry to ensure any work carried out on the coast goes as smoothly as possible either as a consultancy, see marine consutancy or as main contractors.  We work with development companies design and build companies, coastal housing projects where there are requirements for marine work.

We have worked on several houses in the new Vipingo Ridge development where clients wanted specific high quality external metals works which would not suffer from the salty corrosive atmosphere of the area.

We are fully equipped in our welding and fiberglass workshops to undertake most projects, we have fantastic links with suppliers worldwide when we need to bring the items to ensure the project goes through to fruition, we are able to import from all over the world.

We are ready and capable of taking on any marine project along the East African Coast or in the many lakes situated in Sub Saharan Africa.  We can move our team to location in any area and produce any marine based project required.
